Micron potencia las SSDs hasta 1 GB/s

El fabricante del chip ha mostrado unidades de estado sólido con velocidades de transferencia de datos de hasta 1.000 Mbytes por segundo, un rendimiento que cuadriplica el de modelos como el Intel X25-E, el más rápido actualmente en el mercado.
Para poner esta cifra en perspectiva, la unidad de estado sólido de Intel que se publicita como la más rápida del mercado, tiene una velocidad máxima de 250 MB/s y uno de los discos duros más rápidos, el Velociraptor de Western Digital, alcanza 100 MB/s.
Para conseguir elevar la velocidad de transferencia por encima del límite del ancho de banda de 300 MB/s del estándar SATA II, Micron utiliza la interface PCIe y mejoras en la gestión de datos. La compañía mostró una tarjeta PCIe con dos unidades de estado sólido que puede elevar el ancho de banda hasta el GB/s reseñado y 200.000 operaciones de entrada y salida por segundo (IOPS).
Este “invento” no es nuevo y tarjetas PCIe con SSDs ya fueron mostradas hace un año ofreciendo un rendimiento espectacular. Micron indicó que las unidades a 1 GB/s estarían disponibles “pronto” aunque aún queda tiempo para su implantación masiva, debido especialmente a su altísimo coste.
